POSITION  OVERVIEW

We're looking for 2 multitalented video producers to produce hosted content for AJ+ Senior Presenter Dena Takruri. The producers would be joining a small team that creates short vertical (3-minute) to mid-form (5-7 minute) horizontal content for Instagram, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, and longer form (10-12 minute) horizontal investigative field documentaries for YouTube. At your core, you're a video journalist who can secure the interview, research and double-confirm facts, and deftly script multiple scenes into a cohesive and engaging story arc. But beyond that, you're also a creative visual storyteller with insight into how to make compelling online content that takes viewers on a sometimes entertaining, always informative journey. Video editing skills are an absolute requirement, but big plus if you can get creative. Another big plus if you are passionate about unpacking big issues in bite-size ways (for the weekly 3-minute vertical explainer show "Take Note") or accountability journalism that requires intensive field reporting around the world (for the documentary show "Direct From"). We're looking for candidates with a deep understanding of the world of online video – i.e. how to make highly shareable, highly watchable, highly entertaining, and highly informative video content on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts and YouTube. The role requires someone who can work independently to develop a story from pitch to production but can also work alongside Dena and the existing team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Pitch and develop episode ideas for the show(s)

Pre-produce episodes, e.g. outreach to sources, coordinate interviews or shoots

Write compelling scripts that weave a throughline through disparate scenes

Source factually accurate visuals for the stories

Create thorough fact checked scripts with concise copy

Edit a visual narrative and tell a story with (or without) the use of text and host voiceover

Review content performance and build from constructive feedback

Contribute to conversations around editorial and creative ideas

Perform other duties as requested / required

Carry out duties in line with Al Jazeera editorial guidelines and ethics

rEQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent editorial judgment

Strong video editing skills on Adobe Premiere Pro

Avid consumer of YouTube, Instagram and TikTok content

Outstanding writing ability (bonus points if you can write comedy)

Strong research and investigative skills

Broad understanding of news trends, issues, and quirky WTF-isms of the internet

Have a passion and commitment to the Al Jazeera spirit of journalism

Strong understanding of social video and online video consumption habits

Excellent communication, leadership, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Work under tight pressure and deadlines

(Optional) Familiarity with shooting video on mirrorless cameras
