POSITION  OVERVIEW

The applicant will join a team that produces a weekly show primarily for YouTube that will focus on international news from an African perspective. The team must have a broad understanding of regional and global news and have editorial experience from a traditional broadcast or digital media newsroom. We're looking for journalists who have done this before and have an understanding of digital video essays. A skilled video shooter/editor is required to work on both short and long formats. The video shooter/editor will work with the team in articulating a strong visual narrative. A strong candidate will steer team members in the creative process and actively help to ensure effective collaboration. They will ensure the team does not lose sight of important details in articulating the narrative. They will guide projects and teams through workflows and best practices from start to finish.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Able to utilize experience in conceptualizing better designs and processes

Proactively manages communication with all team members

Acts as a second line of defense for error-checking

Quick in translating creative thoughts into fully considered concepts

Delivers a high-quality product in line with project timelines

Follows brand standards with precision

Edits videos in accordance with the latest style guidelines and quality standards

Maintains an organized workflow and assets

Utilizes knowledge of software to maximize the creative potential of projects and assist others with troubleshooting.

When a conflict arises, or in an ambiguous situation, they will communicate with the relevant project leads to help ensure a well-informed and timely resolution.

They will be respectful of the division of project roles, particularly when differences of opinion arise between personnel onset or in post-production.

Implement revision notes from the Executive Producer or other team members

Create motion graphics for videos in accordance with the latest style guidelines and quality standards

rEQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrable video editing experience with a strong portfolio

Thorough knowledge of timing, motivation, and continuity

Creativity and storytelling skills

Ability to work under tight pressure and deadlines

Education & Experience

5 years editing (Minimum Required Relevant Experience: 5 year(s))
